Carolyn Arends

Carolyn Arends oversees the Renovaré Institute for Christian Spiritual Formation as well as several other Renovaré initiatives, including the Book Club. She is also a recording artist, speaker, author, and college instructor. She lives near Vancouver, BC, with her husband Mark and their two children.

Jonathan R. Bailey is a writer and entrepreneur serving at the intersection of Christian Spiritual Formation and technology. He is Co-founder at Dwell, an app that is helping thousands spiritually thrive in our technologically driven world. He also sits on the board of Renovaré, a non-profit ministry that models, resources, and advocates fullness of life with God experienced, by grace, through the spiritual practices of Jesus and of the historical Church. He lives in North Dallas with his wife Kori, son Gray, and daughters Abigail and Liv.

Lacy Finn Borgo

Institute Faculty, Ministry Team

Lacy Finn Borgo teaches and provides spiritual direction for the Renovaré Institute, for the DMin. in Spiritual Direction at Fuller Theological Seminary and at Portland Seminary. She provides spiritual direction for adults through Good​Dirt​Min​istries​.org and spiritual direction for children at Haven House. She is the author of Life with God for Children: A Curriculum for the Spiritual Formation of Children and Good Dirt: A Devotional for the Spiritual Formation of Families, both can be found on her website. Her book Spiritual Conversations with Children: Listening to God Together published with IVP, is now available. Lacy lives on a small farm on the Western Slope of the Rocky Mountains. The rhythms of the earth have formed and shaped her. She currently worships with an Anglican community, but finds something of God in many spaces and places.

Margaret Campbell

Margaret is a graduate of Auburn University with a degree in Interior Design from the School of Architecture. After giving leadership to many different volunteer efforts in Houston, Margaret coordinated the 1997 Houston Regional Conference and the 1999 Renovaré International Conference. She joined the Ministry Team in 1999. She serves on the advisory council for The Art Project Houston and is a member of the Salvation Army Guild. Margaret and her husband Justin have two married children and several grandchildren.

Glandion Carney

Glandion was, until a few years ago, an associate pastor at St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Birmingham, Alabama. He came to Christ in the inner city 40 years ago and still maintains a relationship with the person who led him to Christ. He is passionate about personal evangelism and cites the work of Richard Foster’s Celebration of Discipline as a key to his spiritual growth. He has spent his life trying to nurture others within the church and helping them grow in their faith through transformation principles. He and his wife Marion have 4 children and 8 grandchildren.

James Catford is Chair of Renovaré and a longstanding member of our Ministry Team. During a career in commercial publishing James worked with many of the authors most closely associated with Renovaré and he now chairs SPCK, the largest Christian publisher in the UK. After fourteen years leading the British Bible Society James also works with American Bible Society to support Christians in leadership around the world. He live with his wife Sue in London.

Linda Christians

Linda Christians

Board of Directors, Ministry Team

Linda received her call into the ministry while visiting the Holy Land in 1997 and upon returning to the United States, enrolled in Perkins School of Theology. After graduation from Perkins, Linda became an elder in the United Methodist Church and currently serves as the Senior Pastor at West University United Methodist Church in Houston. She received her Doctor of Ministry degree at Fuller Seminary in 2010. Linda is the author of the book, Creating Team Leadership: Theory, Theology, Strategic Plan. She is married to Doug and they have two teenagers, Zach and Emily.

Mimi Dixon

Miriam Dixon

Miriam (Mimi) Dixon began her ministry in 1979 serving as an associate pastor at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Seattle, Washington. From April of 1985 to May of 2019 she served as senior pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Golden, Colorado. She earned both her MDiv and DMin degrees from Fuller Theological Seminary. Mimi is on the Renovaré Board of Directors and teaches for the Renovaré Institute. She actively promotes Christian Spiritual Formation, crediting Richard Foster and Dallas Willard for their influence in her life and ministry. 

Tina dyer

Tina Dyer

Board of Directors, Ministry Team

Tina is a visionary consultant, coach, racial equity diversity and inclusion strategist, and people developer with over three decades of experience in the financial services industry in a variety of leadership roles. She is currently serving as a Senior Learning & Development Consultant and Vice President in Corporate Human Resources at a Fortune 50 company. Tina holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of California at Davis, and a master’s degree in Christian spiritual formation and leadership from Friends University, Wichita, KS. She is also an alumna of the Renovaré Institute.

A long-term missionary in Africa, Marti and her husband Len now live in Olympia, Washington. Marti works tirelessly as a conference and retreat speaker, and is former Director of Women in Medicine and Dentistry for the Christian Medical and Dental Society.

Richard Foster

Richard J. Foster

Board of Directors, Ministry Team Emeritus

Richard J. Foster is founder, past president and current team member of Renovaré. Having studied at George Fox and Fuller Theological Seminary, Foster has served as a pastor and taught worldwide on spiritual formation. Author of dozens of articles and six books, including Celebration of Discipline, Richard continues to write on the spiritual life. He and his wife, Carolynn, have two grown children, Joel and Nathan, nine grandchildren, and live near Denver, Colorado.

Nathan Foster is Director of Community Life at Renovaré. Formerly, he served as the Andrews Chair in Spiritual Formation at Spring Arbor University and the Pastor of Spiritual Formation at a Free Methodist Church in Jackson, MI. Nathan is a licensed clinical social worker, a certified addictions counselor, and plays bass in the indie rock band Istra Blue. Learn more at nathanfos​ter​pro​jects​.com.

Melanie came on part-time as Renovaré’s bookkeeper in 2019. She and her husband Rob live in Pennsylvania and have two school-aged children.

A former broadcast producer and marketing consultant, Emilie has authored several books including Clinging:The Experience of Prayer, Doors Into Prayer, The Reflective Executive, Wilderness Time, Souls in Full Sail and Green Leaves for Later Years. Emilie and Bill, her husband, live in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Chris Hall currently serves as President of Renovaré. Previously Chris was Director of Academic Spiritual Formation and Distinguished Professor of Theology at Eastern University. Chris is the author of a number of books, including The Mystery of God (with Steven D. Boyer; Baker Academic), Reading Scripture with the Church Fathers, Learning Theology with the Church Fathers, Worshiping with the Church Fathers (InterVarsity Press), and The Trinity (with Roger Olson; Eerdmans). His most recent book is Living Wisely with the Church Fathers (Intervarsity Press). Chris and his wife Debbie reside in Philadelphia. They have three grown children and two grandchildren.

Monty Harrington is the Events Coordinator and Social Media Manager at Renovaré. He has helped Renovaré manage events off and on for the last 20 years. He and his wife Kelly have three daughters, one dog, and own an unreasonable amount of books.

An entrepreneur his entire career, Bob initiated several new ventures in the insurance and financial fields. He is the founder of the Spiritual Formation Alliance. Now retired, Bob assists Christian ministries with strategic planning. Bob lives in Centennial, Colorado.

Brian Kang

Ministry Team

Director of Renovaré Korea, Brian serves both English and Korean speaking Christians from diverse backgrounds, being a bridge connecting Christians to Renovaré in Korea and the United States. Brian, his wife Yoon, and three children live in Korea.

Kim Lownes is the Executive Assistant to the President and Coordinator of Operations at Renovaré. She also assists the Board of Directors as Board Secretary. She and her husband Tucker live in the Philadelphia area and have three young adult children.

Brian Morykon is Director of Communications and Special Projects at Renovaré, where he writes regularly, oversees the website, and uses design and technology to connect people with Jesus and one another. He studied Spiritual Formation and Leadership at Spring Arbor University. Also a singer-songwriter and worship leader, Brian has two albums and has led worship at churches across the denominational spectrum. Jean Nevills is a graduate of Western Evangelical Seminary and the Renovaré Institute. A speaker, retreat leader, and certified Spiritual Director, she co-teaches The Art of Spiritual Direction at George Fox Evangelical Seminary. Marriage and mothering, a family business and community life are the natural arena for practicing what she’s learning regarding spiritual transformation, spiritual practices, and living life with God in a Jesus way. Kai Nilsen

Since 2005, Kai Nilsen has served as lead pastor at Peace Lutheran Church, outside of Columbus,Ohio, after having joined the staff in 1993. Beyond his work at Peace, Kai is on the Ministry Team for Renovaré — an ecumenical movement focusing in spiritual formation. He is also a teacher in the Renovaré Institute for Spiritual Formation, and a leader in the local ministerial association.

In 2009, Kai completed his Doctor of Ministry degree through Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, California. Kai’s book Renew Your Life: Discovering the Wellspring of God’s Energy was published in the fall of 2015

Kai and his wife Patty are parents of four children — Anders, Annika, Leif and Siri.

Justine Olawsky

Justine Olawsky came onboard in 2015 and currently serves as the Education Program Coordinator. She has a special fondness for the Renovaré Book Club (being a voracious and catholic reader herself) and dotes upon the Renovaré Institute students. She lives in Renton, WA with her husband, daughter, three striped kitties, two goldfish, and two very noisy parakeets.

Juanita rasmus

Juanita Campbell Rasmus

Juanita Campbell Rasmus is a speaker, writer, spiritual director, and contemplative. She copastors the St. John’s United Methodist Church in downtown Houston with her husband, Rudy. Started with nine members in 1992, thousands have joined the St. John’s family, making it one of the most culturally diverse congregations in the country. Pastor Juanita has served as a member of the board of directors of Renovaré and its ministry team founded by Richard Foster. Additionally, Juanita serves on the board of her alma mater, Houston Graduate School of Theology, and on advisory boards for Rice University’s Religion and Public Life Program and re:MIND Houston. A worship leader, practitioner, composer, and clinician, George has built worship ministries within local churches and is the Producer of Renovaré Live! and the Producer/​Performer of George Skramstad’s History of Worship. George and Pat, his wife, live in Wichita, Kansas, where he is Pastor of Music and Worship Arts at Central Community Church.

Joan has been with Renovaré since 1995 and currently serves as a beloved and amazing volunteer. She and her husband Bill live in Denver, Colorado. They have two grown children and three grandchildren.

Jim and Meghan, his wife, live in Wichita, Kansas.

Siang Yang is Professor of Psychology at Fuller Theological Seminary and Senior Pastor at First Evangelical Church, Glendale, CA. He has published over 70 articles and authored several books including Full ServiceRest: Experiencing God’s Peace in a Restless World, and Disciplines of the Holy Spirit (with Douglas H. Gregg). Siang Yang and his wife Angela live in Arcadia, California.

An ordained minister, Donn is a self-described musicianary” (musician, composer, and missionary). He has recorded several albums, served on various worship teams, and speaks before groups worldwide. He and his wife LaVoughn live in Stone Mountain, Georgia.

Jane Willard

For over 25 years Jane, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), worked with adults who had experienced childhood trauma, utilizing what she termed imagery prayer. She has presented several papers on the topic at conferences for Christian therapists. Currently Jane is a certified spiritual director. She has led groups through the 30-week Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius and, with joy and gratitude, meets with directees via Skype and in her home in Chatsworth, CA where she and Dallas lived for most of their 57 years of marriage. Jane, her daughter Becky Heatley, and the family work with publishers and organizations to continue Dallas’s message of living in the Kingdom now.”

In Memoriam

Bill was the Founder and President of Preaching and Prayer Ministries, a ministry dedicated to emotional and physical healing. Ordained in the Lutheran church and a designated evangelist, he held missions throughout the US and was the author of I Prayed, He Answered and At Your Word, Lord. Bill dedicated his life to the cause of Christ and His church, and he was a founding member of Renovaré.

Dallas Willard 2

Dallas Willard

In Memoriam

Professor of Philosophy at The University of Southern California, Dallas was an ordained minister who spoke at churches and Christian organizations worldwide. He was a founding member of Renovaré. He wrote, among others, Renovation of the Heart, Hearing God, and Knowing Christ Today. Dallas is survived by his wife Jane, son John, daughter and son-in-law Becky and Bill Heatley, and granddaughter Larissa, who continue his legacy and work.
