Dear Trinity
LETTER BY BRIAN MORYKON
After all these years of being a Christian, sometimes I still get stuck at the start, at how to address God in prayer.
Lord, Father, Jesus, Holy Spirit, God, Abba, Yeshua, YHWH…
Like Moses at the burning bush, I wonder — What do you want us to call you?
It’s true that our Maker wants our hearts far more than our perfectly addressed prayers. Still, how we address God matters because it reveals something about how we think about God. And what we think about God deeply shapes all aspects of our life.
On this week’s episode of Friends in Formation, James Catford shares that it was a profound experience when he “moved from prayer to God as ‘God’ to praying to God as Trinity.”
In the conversation, James, Richella, and Nathan go into more depth about praying to Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. They also answer listener questions about women in leadership and how this connects to the Trinity.
There’s much more that could be said, but I’m getting out of my theological depth. So along with that podcast conversation, below are some articles by our own Chris Hall. He doesn’t like to be called an “expert on the Trinity” — for who can master a mystery — but he has prayerfully thought and written about the Three-In-One more than anyone I know.
