Pray Without Ceasing
LETTER BY BRIAN MORYKON
Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it. —Jacob (Gen. 28)
The Lord is here. He’s with me in this little study at my dad’s house where I am visiting to celebrate his 70th birthday. As I type this email to you I am actively reminding myself of this invisible reality. God is at hand. No — he’s closer than that. God dwells within. Suddenly I’m on holy ground.
Aware now I’m not alone I pray aloud: “Lord, I recognize your presence here. I agree with you for the goodness you desire for each person receiving this email. Peace to those in turmoil. Concentration for those distracted. Patience for those waiting. Hope for those in despair.”
This week Chris Hall, Jan Johnson, and Nathan Foster aid our journey toward praying without ceasing. It’s not complicated but it takes effort and practice. But what a reward. Just ask the lord of all pots and pans, Brother Lawrence: “There is not in the world a kind of life more sweet and delightful, than that of a continual conversation with God; those only can comprehend it who practice and experience it.”
With you in his presence,
Brian Morykon
