I Make All Things New
LETTER BY BRIAN MORYKON
There is a scene from The Passion of the Christ. If you’ve seen the film you’ll know the one — it doesn’t easily leave you.
Jesus, already bloody from torture and wearing a crown of thorns, is carrying his cross along the Via Dolorosa and now collapses under its weight. His mother sees him. Recalling how she comforted him as a little boy she runs to him and says, “I’m here.” Jesus holds her face and says, with anguish and victory mingled in his voice, “See, Mother, I make all things new.”
That image often sustains me. It captures his strength, his courage, his humility, his joy-fueled perseverance. His unconquerable love.
He did it. It is finished. “If anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!” (2 Cor 5:17)
From all of us at Renovaré, we pray that you are able to plunge ever more deeply into the new creation made possible by the death and resurrection of our Lord.
