Christian Meditation: Filling, Not Emptying
LETTER BY BRIAN MORYKON
Continuing our focus on one Spiritual Discipline per month, we turn our attention to meditation — specifically, and here it’s important to be specific, Christian meditation.
Unlike yoga, Eastern meditation, or transcendental meditation, Christian meditation has nothing to do with emptying our minds. Rather, it means setting our minds on what is good, lovely, and true. As Archbishop Anthony Bloom puts it, “Meditation is a piece of straight thinking under God’s guidance.”
Nathan Foster teaches on Christian meditation in the podcast. Chris Hall writes on prayer, which goes hand-in-hand with meditation. And selections from Richard Foster and Joyce Huggett round out this week’s digest.
May the mind of Christ live in you,
Brian Morykon
