Cautious and Courageous

LETTER BY BRIAN MORYKON

A webinar participant earnestly asked, Is COVID-19 like viral leprosy? If so, would Jesus ignore social distancing guidelines?”

There was no one better to address the question than Shane Claiborne, a Christian activist who takes thoughtful risks and sometimes finds himself in jail for nonviolently protesting injustice.

We have to be courageous and cautious,” Shane responded. That’s a delicate dance. What does fearlessness look like and what does care and wisdom look like… The question is how can we love our neighbor well right now… and what would Jesus do in our place?”

His full answer along with insights from Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove and Renovaré President Chris Hall are available in the Living Wisely and Loving Well in the Current Crisis webinar, hosted on Tuesday by Carolyn Arends and now available to watch free.

Many of us are experiencing varying levels of anxiety during this time. Donn Thomas, pastor, worship leader, and Renovaré Ministry Team member, joined Nathan Foster on the Renovaré Podcast to share the Lord’s nearness in his battle with cancer, and how worship is a weapon in the war on fear.

May the Spirit of Christ give you wisdom, courage, and peace beyond understanding,

Brian Morykon
