Praying Our Pain
LETTER BY BRIAN MORYKON

Dear friends,
Dreams shatter. Homes flood. Bodies fail. Parents pass. And sometimes even when things are well without there is turmoil within.
In the world we will have trouble. How do we take heart?
Dallas Willard helps us on a philosophical and theological level by addressing the age-old problem of evil and suffering.
And Trevor Hudson helps us on a practical, experiential level. In a poignant talk based on Mary Magdalene’s tearful encounter with the Gardener in John 20, Trevor encourages us “to pray your pain. Give words to it and bring it to Christ.”
Voice our troubles in prayer isn’t about giving Jesus information. He knows. It’s about giving him access to the broken places in our life so his love can flow into the cracks and bring healing.
If you have any heaviness of heart, I encourage you to take a half hour and listen to Trevor’s talk. Pauses with quiet music have been added for reflection and prayer. It ministered to my soul as I hope it does to yours.
Peace of Christ to you,
Brian Morykon
