Conversion and Transformative Community
LETTER BY BRIAN MORYKON
Some people’s lives back up the currency of their words. Dr. Miriam Dixon — or Mimi as she likes to be called — is such a person. When she speaks, I listen.
Mimi retires this month from First Presbyterian of Golden, Colorado, where she served as senior pastor for thirty-four years. Last summer she was asked by Richard Foster to share from her experience leading a community focused on spiritual transformation. That talk and Richard’s final major talk are available now to watch or read. The audience consisted of pastors and leaders, but if you’re reading this I believe you’ll find both talks most helpful.
This week also continues our focus on one of the most misunderstood of streams — the Evangelical Tradition. On the podcast, Nathan interviews Steve Macchia who recognizes its weaknesses but reminds us not to throw out the strengths.
One area the Evangelical Tradition emphasizes is conversion — something that’s typically thought of as a one-time event. But Carolyn Arends, joining the voice of E. Stanley Jones many years before, makes a convincing case that conversion is both the act of a moment and the work of a lifetime.

articleA Convert’s Conversion "The longer I’ve walked with Jesus," shares Carolyn Arends, "the more I’ve come to see two things. First, my four-year-old conversion was utterly genuine.
