A Solution for Spiritual Muddles
LETTER BY BRIAN MORYKON
If you move toward any good creative work, especially work in which you sense God’s calling, expect resistance.
It might be fear that masquerades as humility.
It might be excuses that sound spiritual.
It might be any number of things that muck up your mind until you can’t think three feet in front of you.
When rocks of resistance tumble down and trap you in a cave of indecision, there is only one pickaxe that can break through to clarity and joy: obedience.
Oswald Chambers said it best: “You cannot think a spiritual muddle clear, you have to obey it clear.”
That quote came up on the Renovaré Podcast this week, where Nathan Foster invited me on to chat about obedience, creativity, and community. It also previews two songs from my new album in the works—a project I sensed God’s invitation into but had stayed in a muddle about for some time!
What do you sense the Lord inviting you to do that you’ve been putting off?
Perhaps it’s to fast and pray about a specific matter, take a retreat, write a letter to an estranged friend, join a recovery group, start a petition, teach a class — or perhaps it is simply to remain faithful exactly where you are. Ask the Holy Spirit to lay bare any excuses and to give you the courage to obey. Joy awaits.
In Christ,
Brian Morykon
Director of Communications
