In Freedom and Peace

Introductory Note:

As the Renovaré Team prepares to “go dark” for a week in celebration of such holidays as Canada Day and Independence Day, we leave you with a short prayer from the Book of Common Prayer. Whether your nation is marking a birthday this coming week or not, may we all serve the Lord in freedom and peace.

Lord God Almighty, you have made all the peoples of the earth for your glory, to serve you in freedom and in peace: Give to the people of our country a zeal for justice and the strength of forbearance, that we may use our liberty in accordance with your gracious will; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Book of Common Prayer (BCP) is the short title of a number of related prayer books used in the Anglican Communion, as well as by the Continuing Anglican, “Anglican realignment” and other Anglican churches. The original book, published in 1549 (Church of England 1957), in the reign of Edward VI, was a product of the English Reformation following the break with Rome.
