If you ever get a chance to meet Renovaré ministry team member Marti Ensign, the people who know her will implore you to ask her to tell you some stories. The many years she spent alongside her husband Len in African missions have given her more than a few remarkable tales to tell. Her additional adventures include serving on the boards of Mission Aviation Fellowship and the African Children’s Choir, where she was also tour director and interpreter. She is an ordained minister in the Free Methodist Church, the former director of women in medicine and dentistry for the Christian Medical and Dental Society of America, and a former chaplain on the campus of Seattle Pacific University.

In each one of her roles, Marti’s gift for funny, poignant, inspiring storytelling has been cherished by all those who have encountered it. In 2001, Richard Foster decided the wider world needed to hear Marti’s stories, and he arranged to record a selection of them in an informal gathering at the Downing House in Englewood, Colorado. Renovaré was able to make An Evening with Madamo: Stories and Reflections on our Life with God available on compact disc for many years. Now, with the disc no longer widely available, we are pleased to be able to freely offer the audio right here on renovare.org.

We are most grateful to Marti and Richard (and the team who worked on this recording) for their generosity in sharing these stories with us — and for their example in living the sorts of lives with God that make these stories possible.
