The 2020 Renovaré Foxtail Gathering will convene at Living Way Fellowship in Littleton, Colorado (Denver area). It kicks off with dinner on Thursday, June 11 and wraps up the evening of Saturday, June 13.

An invitation from Nathan Foster

The Backstory

Years ago, when his book Celebration of Discipline first took off, Richard Foster was inundated with invitations to speak. This was the launching pad for Renovaré, which in its early days mainly hosted regional conferences. Richard used these opportunities to share the work of others like Dallas Willard, bring diverse churches together, and help people “taste and see” through teaching, prayer times, and spiritual formation groups.

Light ‘Em and Let ‘Em Go

As Renovaré grew, Richard shared some concerns with a friend, Dallas Willard: Do we enlist regional directors? What hierarchy should we have? How will we manage it all? Dallas replied,

“Why don’t you just light the tails of the foxes and let’em run.”

And that statement—an allusion to a Samson story in the book of Judges—brought Richard great relief. There’s no need to control or micromanage. The work of Renovaré is simply to create learning spaces and resources that rekindle the hearts of God’s people so they can carry that fire back into everyday life and ministry.

It’s 2020. Do Christians Need Another Conference?

A lot has changed in the thirty years since Renovaré began. There is no shortage of spiritual formation resources. Books and courses abound, spiritual disciplines are better understood, and denominational lines are less sharply drawn.

What hasn’t changed is the need for spiritual renewal.

When the Renovaré staff met recently to reimagine events for today, everyone agreed that the centerpiece should not be “sages on stages.” Rather, phrases surfaced like:

Savoring, rather than “drinking from a firehose.”
Ample time for extended prayer ministry.
A life that is caught as much as taught.
Learning spaces that are Restful Relational Experiential.

The Foxtail is an attempt to create a learning space that embodies those ideals—a gathering of 300 or so followers of Jesus for meals, music, worship, teaching, talking, silence, and laughter...

A place to come and listen not only to good teachers but to the Teacher.
A place to meet a new friend who might just become a lifelong friend.
A place to make a Spirit-led plan for growing in grace.
A place to recenter our scattered souls on Jesus.
A place to remind one another of the beauty of the Trinity and fan into flame the gift of God within us.

Who Will Be There?

Speakers and Listeners

The Foxtail is as much about who attends as who presents. Your presence may bless someone more than anyone on the stage.
